Meet Bonnie & Thomas

Bonnie and Thomas Shanteau met while working at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Their shared love of animals—and their grandchildren’s love of reading—inspired them to create The Adventures of Duck and Dog.

Bonnie Shanteau

Bonnie Shanteau grew up in a small town in Middle Tennessee and now lives in North Alabama with Thomas. A nurse for more than 25 years, Bonnie has always had a heart for animals and has been a pet mom to cats, dogs, chickens, and horses. Her especially close companion is Tilly, her beloved MorkiePoo, who is rarely far from her side.

Bonnie enjoys crafting, spending time with family, and being outdoors. Her lifelong love of animals and her grandchildren’s love of reading inspired her to coauthor The Adventures of Duck and Dog with Thomas, sharing stories that celebrate friendship, kindness, and the joy of being together.

Thomas Shanteau

Thomas Shanteau grew up in West Virginia and now lives in North Alabama with Bonnie. A nurse for nearly 20 years, singer-songwriter, and animal lover, Thomas enjoys fishing, spending time outdoors, and playing with his dog, Tucker. He coauthors The Adventures of Duck and Dog with Bonnie, inspired by their shared love of animals and their grandchildren’s love of reading.
